Abstract

1432370 Vehicle wheels DUNLOP Ltd 3 July 1973 [13 July 1972] 32757/72 Heading B7C In a wheel rim for a pneumatic tyre having a tread width greater than the width between the bead retaining flanges, the flanges are of differing radial heights, and the rim includes means for preventing a tyre bead from being axially inwardly displaced from its associated bead seat when the tyre is driven substantially deflated. The flanges may be at differing angles relative to the respective bead seats and of the same lengths along their surfaces from the seats to their radially outermost points, or may be of differing lengths. In the latter case the angles which the flanges make with the bead seats may be identical or different. The flat base rim shown, has been formed from a well-based rim blank, and a toe 10 on bead 15 engages in a notch to restrain that bead from axial inward movement. An alternative flat based rim is a split rim having studs to restrain axial inward movement of the beads. The rim may alternatively be well-based, and include a saddle member for preventing axial inward displacement of the beads. The tyre may have an aspect ratio of approximately 60%, and the flanges may differ in radial height by 0À07 inches.
