1456215 Vehicle wheels INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 13 Nov 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 52561/73 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre and wheel rim assembly, Fig. 13, comprises a pneumatic run flat tyre of the type described in Specification 1,396,428 mounted on a wheel rim, the wheel rim having bead seats in the form of circumferential channels receiving the tyre beads 17, 18, each channel having an opening through which the bead is received narrower than the maximum width of the channel, each tyre bead having crosssectional shape substantially the same as its associated bead seat channel, the cross-sectional area of each bead, before it is received in its associated bead seat channel, being not less than the cross-sectional area of the bead seat channel. In modifications of the embodiment of Fig. 13, the tyre beads may have cross-sectional shapes which are generally circular, as shown in Fig. 1, triangular, rhomboidal, or rectangular. The openings of the bead seat channels may be directed radially outwardly or axially inwardly. The bead seats may comprise portions which can be detached to facilitate introduction of the beads into the channels of the bead seats. [GB1456215A]
