Abstract
1432214 Insulating by moulding BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 5 Sept 1973 [7 Sept 1972] 41756/73 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B3 and H2] A conductor bar 1 is insulated by enclosing it within an insulating strip 2 comprising a mixture of powdered mica and partly cured synthetic resin, and then subjecting the assembly to pressure in a moulding press and curing the insulation at an elevated temperature, the edges of the strip fusing to form a butt joint 3. The mica powder is preferably between 60 and 80% by weight in the consistency of the mixture, and 5 to 15% of glass fibre material may be included for mechanical strength purposes. The resin may be of the epoxide variety. In the method of Fig. 2 (not shown), the bar is surrounded initially by a plurality of insulating strips (4, 5) which form a continuous covering when the insulation is compressed and cured.
