Abstract
1432071 Electrical conductor OWENSCORNING FIBERGLAS CORP 9 Jan 1974 [10 Jan 1973] 01104/74 Heading H1A [Also in Division H5] An electrical conductor 20 comprises a plurality of flexible conductive fibres 22 on which are wound at least two angularly disposed non-interlacing windings 30 to 34 and a semiconducting overcoat (26). The bundle of fibres 22 may be formed from glass of diameter 0À0005 inch approx. as described in U.S.A. Patent Specifications 3,247,020 and 3,269,883. The bundle is held together in a substantially circular cylindrical form by winding thereon non-conductive glass stands 28, 32 under tension, so as to form a uniform matrix of diamond-shaped apertures 37 with <SP>1</SP>/ 16 inch to <SP>3</SP>/ 16 inch between crossover points of the windings. The semi-conducting overcoat comprises, e.g. P.T.F.E. with a suspension of graphite or carbon and a filler such as silica. Its thickness is preferably 0À0005 to 0À01 inch and its resistance varies between 150 #ft.<SP>-2</SP> and 5000 #ft.<SP>-2</SP> depending on the percentage of graphite or carbon used. It may also contain other ingredients such as anti-foam agents and pH adjusters; three quantitative examples being given in the Specification.
