Abstract
1,142,197. Coating apparatus, coated copper conductors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 June, 1966 [15 July, 1965], No. 30091/65. Headings B2K and B2L. A bare electrical conductor formed from rectangular cross section copper strip and of a desired configuration is insulated by first subjecting the conductor to a cleaning and passivating treatment, then depositing a coating of electrostatically charged resin powder, e.g. epoxy or polyester resin, on the conductor to a required thickness, and thereafter fusing and curing the resin on the surface of the copper. Coating is effected by transporting the conductors 1, held in clamps 3, by means of a conveyor 2 through a tank 4 containing a cloud of electrically charged resin powder. The tank has a base consisting of a porous plate 5 through which air is blown to keep the powder in suspension, and which also holds a number of electrodes 6 which raise the powder to a negative potential. The copper strip may be of continuous length.
