Abstract

1432014 Aminoarylsilane coating DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 29 March 1973 [30 March 1972] 15284/73 Heading B2E A substrate is provided on a surface thereof with an adherent film of one or more amino arylsilanes of formula: in which R are the same or different and each is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, or the two radicals R together are alkylene; the radicals R' are the same or different and each is an alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, phenyl or benzyl; the or each radical R" is alkyl which may be the same or different when two or more thereof are present, a is 1 or 2, is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 when a is 1, and is 0, 1, 2 or 3 when a is 2. The treatment increases the subsequent adhesion of a polymeric material to the surface and in the case of metal surfaces inhibits corrosion of the surfaces when exposed to air or subjected to an elevated temperature. The surface may be of an inorganic oxidic material, e.g. asbestos, mica, quartz, iron oxides, glass fibres, glass cloths, glass beads, calcium carbonate or metal, e.g. iron, zinc, aluminium, magnesium, copper and alloys thereof such as brass and bronze. Polymeric materials whose adhesion to the surfaces is improved are natural and synthetic rubbers, polyvinyl chloride, epoxide resings and polyurethane resins. The surface treatment may be carried out by applying a solution of the silane, e.g. by dip coating, spray coating, spreading.
