Abstract

1431649 Carbon product BAYER AG 30 Aug 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 37937/74 Heading C1A A carbon product, in particular a foam, is prepared by pyrolysing a foam comprising a polymer containing isocyanurate groups in an inert atmosphere, preferably by heating the foam at a rate of 100‹ to 2000‹ C. per hour in an inert atmosphere to a temperature of from 600‹ to 3000‹ C., at which temperature it is held for 0À5 to 50 hours. The inert atmosphere may be of argon, helium, neon, nitrogen, or carbon dioxide. The density of the product is preferably below 200 kg./m.<SP>3</SP> The isocyanurate foam may be subjected to an oxidative treatment prior to carbonization.
