Abstract

143,159. Pratt, W. L., (Rankin, H.). Dec. 30, 1919. Delivering molten metal. -Relates to a modification of the apparatus described in Specification 144,552 for delivering uniform charges of molten glass or other material from a tank furnace. According to the invention, the upper edge of the discharge hole C is formed as a seating D for a tubular valve E which is raised and lowered pneumatically. The flow of metal is further controlled by the rise and fall of a plunger F which is moved independently of the tube E. The strokes of the plunger F and tube E may be varied by adjustable disks S, L in the pneumatic cylinders R, K. The compressed air may be controlled by the valve mechanism described in Specification 143,794. The tube E is provided with flues G.
