Charging; liquids, supplying; cleaning-apparatus; cooling.-Apparatus for supplying to blast or melting furnaces additional materials, such as oxygen, oil, water, coal, ore, or furnace dust, comprises a feed-tube c enclosing a hollow spindle d within which is arranged a movable rod g for cleaning the delivery-nozzle f, the complete device being disposed within a cooling jacket, which, in the embodiment described, is that of the usual blast-tuyere a. In operation, the additional material is fed to the tube c by a pipe h and the rate of discharge through the nozzle f is regulated by adjusting the positions of the spindle d and rod g. When the material to be added is in solid form it is mixed with water or supplied to the furnace by a current of air or other gas.
