Abstract
1431423 Virtual computer systems HONEYWELL INFORMATION SYSTEMS Inc 30 May 1974 [31 May 1973] 23939/74 Heading G4A A hardware virtualizer for running processes on a virtual computer machine running on a general purpose computer and having a virtual machine monitor comprises a # map for mapping process names into resource names, an f map for mapping virtual resource names into real resource names and a map composer for combining the # map and the f map to produce a general composed map. The processes are defined by a set of process names P=p 0 ... p j , the virtual resources being defined as a set V=v 0 ... vm and the real resources as a set R=r 0 ... r n , the sets V and R containing the addresses of all memories, addressable registers and input/output devices. The process map associates the process names with the real resource names during process execution wherein an element x of the set of process names P is associated with an element y of the set of resources such that #(x)=y if y is the real resource name that corresponds to the virtual resource name x but #(x) = e if x does not have a corresponding real resource assigned to it at a particular instance in time. The resource map f has recursive levels of f maps for associating virtual resource names with real resource names such that an element y of the set of virtual resources V is associated with an element z of the set of real resources R such that f(y) = z if z is the real resource that corresponds to the virtual resource y but f(y) = t if y does not have a corresponding real resource assigned to it at a particular instance in time.
