Abstract

1431132 Hydroquinones FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 20 March 1974 [22 March 1973] 12487/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] Hydroquinones are produced by reducing a quinone with an N,N-disubstituted hydroxylamine, optionally in the presence of a solvent. The quinone may be benzoquinone or naphthoquinone and may carry from 1 to 4 substituents selected from alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, acyloxy, oxaacyloxy, acylamido and halogen. Examples of starting quinones are 3-(2<SP>1</SP>-benzofuranyl)-3- oxo - 2 - [4<SP>11</SP> - (2<SP>111</SP> - quinolylethyl)phenylhydrazono]propionitrile; 1-phenyl-3-hexylcarbamoyl - 4 - [41 - (2<SP>11</SP> - quinonylethyl)phenylhydrazono] - 5 - pyrazolone; 3 - (2<SP>1 </SP>- furanyl)- 3 - oxo - 2 - [4<SP>11</SP> - (quinonylmethyl - carbamoyl)- phenyl - hydrazono] - propionitrile; p - tolylp - benzoquinone; benzamidomethyl - p - benzoquinone; and 1-phenyl-5-quinonylthiotetrazole.
