1431058 Feeding sheets; sheet ordering apparatus GUTERNIC AB 22 March 1973 [23 March 1972 23 Jan 1973] 13736/73 Heading B8R Sheets 11 are simultaneously separated from a plurality of piles supported on shelves between partitions 3 and directed along channels 13 to a single receiver 41 where they form a collated set. Separation is effected by a plurality of friction separators 4 which raise each endmost sheet to a position where a flap 10 may engage the remainder of each pile thereby directing each endmost sheet away from the piles and into the channels as the separators execute a return (downward) movement. The separators are reciprocated over the faces of the piles by parallel arms 15 which are oscillated along slots 8 by disc 39 and link rod 35. The separators are lifted from the piles upon completion of their downward movement by engagement with teeth of a rack 1. The flaps 10 are normally held out of contact with the piles by arms 21 and the teeth of a rack 2. Upon upward movement of the separators 4 the arms 21 are pivoted away from the flaps and the rack 2 is moved by electromagnet 6 to release the flaps which are brought into engagement with the piles by springs 9. Upon downward movement of the separators the engaged sheets are directed by the sloping surfaces of flaps 10 into the channels 13. Continued downward movement of the separators is accompanied by pivoting of arms 21 to lift the flaps from the piles and a return of rack 2 to lock the flaps in their inoperative position. The collated sheets are aligned by a vibrator 42. Between the delivery of each set into the receiver 41 by rollers 30, 31 the receiver is rotated through 90 degrees to form distinguishable batches.
