Abstract

1336834 Feeding sheets SOUTHWORTH MACHINE CO 20 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 28720/72 Heading B8R Means for separating batches of sheets from the bottom of a pile 21, Figs. 5 and 8, of limp or intermixed limp and self-supporting sheets comprises a needle 45, Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 8, carried on a block 47 reciprocable by means of a cam 57 operated by an air piston 58 to move the needle into the front of the pile, whereafter a place 64 is pivoted by a further cam so as to move the needle and the front end of the lowest batch of sheets downwards to the position of Fig. 8 to form a gap 69 and allow the insertion of grippers 62, 63 to clamp the batch. After withdrawal of the needle and further downward movement of the plate 64, the grippers withdraw the batch, while the next batch 85 is retained by a surface 84 of a lever 81 and fingers 95, 96 of levers 92, 93. Leaf springs 112 on elements 108, 109 define a gap 110 for the removal of the batch, and air is emitted through slots 124, 125 into the gap 69. A part 103 on the block 47 raises the central part of the lowest sheets to compensate for any bowing.
