Potato-planters; seed-distributors.-A machine for planting potatoes and other seeds comprises a rotary drum provided with fingers adapted to pass through a hopper and lift a potato therefrom, and with special means for holding the potato on the fingers until it is brought into position for planting and for dislodging it when in that position. The radial fingers c are mounted in pairs on the drum a and pass through a hopper b. They may bo straight, or may have their ends bent forward as shown. The potatoes are held in position on the fingers by the pointed ends g of curved bars d pivoted in the drum a and controlled by a cam h and springs f. As each pair of fingers c rises towards the top of the drum, the corresponding bar d escapes from contact with the cam h and is forced by the spring f into the potato carried by the fingers. The potato is released near the bottom of the drum by the re-engagement of the bar d with the cam h, which causes the other end c of the bar to pass between the fingers and dislodge the potato. Two or more adjustable drums and hoppers may be provided. A share, coulter, or disk may be mounted to open a furrow.
