Abstract
1430079 Lightning arresters BOWTHORPEHELLERMANN Ltd 10 Sept 1973 [11 Sept 1972] 42022/72 Heading H2H High voltage electrical equipment such as a lightning arrester comprises a casing 7 within which components 9, 11 are located by means of members 16, at least one of the members being resilient or deformable. The components 9, 11 are spark gap units and non-linear resistor assemblies and some of the components are provided on their outer surfaces with three equally spaced projections having channels in which the three members 16 are located. The casing, which may be filled with an inert gas, is provided with a filling cover 15 and a diaphragm 14 which may operate an indicator in the event of fracture of the diaphragm. The members 16 are tubes made of nylon or acetal resin and are filled with polyurethane, epoxy resin, polysulphide materials, polystyrene or silicone rubber. Carbon or silicon carbide may be added to the filler to provide a high resistance conductive path. Alternatively the tubes may be filled with a liquid or a gas such as air or nitrogen.
