Abstract

1430045 Oviduct blocks: syringes FRANKLIN INSTITUTE 2 Feb 1974 [26 Feb 1973] 8251/74 Heading A5R A contraception method comprises introducing into the oviducts by means of an injection apparatus 20 a fluid self-curing elastomeric mixture which sets to form oviduct blocks having a modulus of elasticity substantially the same as the oviducts, the blocks being non- surgically removable by gripping and pulling on attached loops 18. The apparatus 20 comprises a tubular member 22 bearing at its distal end 28 a detachable silicone rubber apertured tip 10 for sealing the uterine end of the oviduct and fitted by mating rings 16, 38 to a metal connector 36 and a tube 42 slidable within tubular member 22. Tube 42 is connected to the barrel of a syringe 44 containing the elastomeric mixture, syringe 44 having a plunger 46 operated by a trigger 52 of a control handle 26 via a rack 48 and a pawl 50. The distal end of tubular member 22 is flexible and is urged away from its normal straight configuration for positioning adjacent an oviduct by control wires 30, 32 connected to the end 28 of member 22 and tensioned on drums 34. The elastomeric mixture is introduced into the oviduct via tube 42, connector 36 and the aperture 14 of tip 10 and solidifies and adheres to tip 10, which is then detached from connector 36 by pulling on the tube 42 thus severing by means of an edge 40 of connector 36 the cured from the uncured mixture and leaving tip 10 attached to the oviduct block. A radio-opaque material may be incorporated in the elastomeric mixture to aid placing of the oviduct blocks by fluoroscopic techniques.
