Abstract

1429915 Silver halide developing agents FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 25 July 1974 [26 July 1973] 32991/74 Heading G2C A silver halide developing agent dispersion comprises a hydrophilic colloid having dispersed therein fine droplets of a silver halide developing agent dissolved in a substantially water-insoluble solvent, and at least one surface active polymer containing recurring units of the Formula wherein R is a hydrocarbon chain or a fluorine substituted hydrocarbon chain containing 4 to 22 carbon atoms or an aryl group; n is 0 to 40; and M is a hydrogen atom or a cation. The developing agent is defined as a compound capable of acting as a reducing agent for an exposed silver halide, such as a dye developer and/or an auxiliary developing agent. The polymers are esterfied maleic anhydride polymers or polymers of maleic acid half esters or their salts, including copolymers with e.g. ethylene, styrene, methyl vinyl ether, methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, acrylamide, vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride. The dispersion may also contain conventional surface-active agents. The dye developers are conventional. Derivatives of hydroquinone, catechol and dihydroxy-tetrahydronaphthalene are specified as auxiliary developing agents. The developing agents may be dissolved in a high boiling solvent (e.g. b.p. above 150‹C) with optionally an auxiliary solvent and the solution is then dispersed in an aqueous solution of hydrophilic colloid to form colloidal particles of size less than 1 Á, e.g. down to 0.3 Á. An oleophilic polymer or viscosity increasing agent may be added to the oil phase of the dispersion.
