Abstract

1429496 Ink ribbon mechanisms SCM CORP 5 June 1973 [5 June 1972] 26890/73 Heading B6F A keyboard printer has an ink ribbon vibrator mechanism and an ink ribbon advance mechanism operated by the vibrator mechanism. As shown the ink ribbon 8 is stored in a cartridge 6 with an exposed portion 8a between print head 42 and platen 15. Gear 31 is driven from shaft 34 and its cam 44 causes bail 26 to rock on its shaft 27 and in turn to rock bell crank 18. The bell crank 18 has an ear 39 supporting the cartridge 6. The cartridge 6 is pivotably mounted by studs 4, 5 engaging notches 9 in its casing. Rocking of the crank 18 thus rocks the cartridge 6 and vibrates the ribbon portion 8a. A further crank 21 drives motion from the crank 18 to move its drive pin 38 on a ratchet drive gear on the cartridge. The cartridge 6 includes two gears beneath the drive gear which mesh with two other gears (not shown). The ribbon 8 passes between these two pairs of gears and is thus drawn across the platen 15. As shown the ribbon may be continuous and randomly stored or, Fig. 3 (not shown), there may be a supply spool and a randomly stored used ribbon area.
