Abstract

1429387 Mining machine BADGER MFG CORP 4 Oct 1973 [6 Oct 1972] 46318/73 Heading E1F A deep mine augering machine comprises a carriage 30, supporting means 50 for rotating auger 80 and movable along an elongated sump frame 20 and an anchor frame 110, of greater lateral and smaller longitudinal dimension than the sump frame 20, having a pair of rails 113 perpendicular to the elongated sides of the sump frame, whereby one of the anchor frame and the sump frame may be selectively supported from the other and be moved relative to it by means 120. Thus the anchor frame 110 can be supported from the floor by jacks 61, 62 and the sump frame, carriage and auger be moved laterally by jacks 121, or the sump frame may be supported by wheels 145, 155 and the anchor frame be moved laterally; the wheels may be mounted on jacks, in which case the floor jacks on the anchor frame are omitted. The rear wheels 145 are driven by individual electric motors 141 and the front wheels 155 are steerable. Flights 81 of the auger 80 are connected by means 90, Fig. 5, including a lug 92 on shaft 91 engageable in passage 97 and trays 98, 99 in shaft 84 which receives the shaft 91. Selective engagement and disengagement of auger flights is aided by the provision of a control for specifically rotating the auger through an angle 95 corresponding to moving the lug 92 from one bay into alignment with the passage 97. The machine is provided with dust-collecting means 100, Fig. 3, including collecting ring 107 connected to a vacuum pump and a spacer ring 106, chosen in accordance with the diameter of the auger being used, and having holes matching similar holes in the ring 107.
