Abstract
1429344 Wall plugs A BONNEAU 6 March 1973 [10 March 1972] 10698/73 Heading F2H [Also in Divisions E1 and H2] An electrode, for use in a method of drying damp walls wherein electrodes are inserted into the wall and connected to earth, is expansible in order to secure it frictionally in a hole drilled in the wall, and comprises a metal tube 7 split longitudinally into a plurality of segments 8 and secured at one end to a nut 9, a screwthreaded rod 13 extending inside the tube 7 and engaged at one end in the nut 9, and a radially expansible resilient element inside the tube and disposed between the nut 9 and a head 14 at the other end of the screw-rod 13, whereby tightening of the rod 13 compresses axially the resilient element and causes it to expand radially, forcing the tube segments 8 to move outwardly. The resilient element comprises plastics tubes 10 (which could be replaced by spring steel strips) held at their ends in cup-like members 11 bearing against spacers 12. A tubular tapered connector 15 is inserted in the outer end of the tube 7 and carries a screw 16 for connecting the electrode to a conductor 6 of, e.g. metal braid, which interconnects a series of electrodes. The conductor 6 is disposed in a groove in the wall surface which contains a resilient strap 22 for clipping on a plastics cover strip 21, the tube segments 8 having flanges 19 bearing through a washer 18 against the strap 22.
