Abstract
1429010 Cooling nuclear reactors INTERATOM INTERNATIONALE ATOMREAKTORBAU GmbH 6 April 1973 [8 April 1972] 16750/73 Heading G6C A nuclear reactor cooled by a liquid metal, e.g. sodium, comprises a coolant inlet port 3 connected to a rigid plenum vessel 11 from which the coolant flows to the core (with the pressure of coolant passing from the inlet port 3 to the input face of the core being withheld from the reactor pressure vessel) to emerge therefrom into the reactor vessel 1 from which an outlet port 4 is provided. The plenum vessel 11 is detachably supported from the reactor vessel 1 by means of co-operating flanges 13, 14 and bolts 15 and, at its upper end, detachably supports a core-support plate 7 to which, normally, it is sealed. Coolant passing to the core from the plenum vessel 11 does so via flow ducting 12. The operation of removal of the core, coresupport plate and plenum vessel is described (Fig. 2, not shown).
