Abstract

1428759 Forming and separating threads BAYER AG 25 Oct 1973 [28 Oct 1972] 49682/73 Heading D1F In a process for the production and separation of a multiple thread (or tow) comprising synthetic high polymer e.g. a polyamide, polyester, polyolefin or polycarbonate, monofilament or multifilament partial threads (or groups of continuous filaments) the monofilament &c threads as formed by spinning or spinning and stretching are run separately over dressing, drawing and/or stretching rollers or elements before they are carried in multiple form to a common multiple package. This package is subsequently separated into the thread components under a tension greater than the thread tension during unwinding from the multiple package, such latter tension being equal to or less than the winding tension at the production stage: Separating tension is preferably 0.2-2 pond/decitex with a separating angle of at least one degree maintained between adjacent threads e.g. by the smooth teeth of a comb. Separated threads may then pass to a winding apparatus e.g. a bearing machine.
