Abstract
1428758 Internal combustion after burners HITACHI Ltd 16 Oct 1973 [20 Oct 1972] 48165/73 Heading F4B In an internal combustion engine after burner arrangement, passage means arranged to allow a restricted flow of exhaust gases is mounted between the engine and the after burner, and a throttle is opened to increase the flow as the engine speeds up. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a damper 8 with an opening to allow passage of a small amount of exhaust gases, is opened when the temperature of the burnt gases fed to a bimetal member through a passage 12 attains a desired level. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the damper 8 is opened when the pressure in the engine intake manifold falls to a predetermined value. The damper may be controlled by a rod connected to a choke control, or throttle control, and the restricted flow of exhaust gases may be through a separate passage rather than through a hole in the damper. An air-supply by-pass valve may be linked to the damper, to reduce the supply of air when the engine attains cooling temperature.
