Abstract

1428407 Data processing system PLESSEY CO Ltd 1 June 1973 [5 June 1972] 26190/72 Heading G4A [Also in Division H4] An interfacing device of a data processing system is connectible via a switching medium PS, DS to any one of a plurality of peripherals SCP, each peripheral having a corresponding outlet from the switching medium and including means for testing that a check code, appended to an output message transmitted from the interfacing device to the peripheral, corresponds to a check code assigned to the outlet for that device. If the check code does not correspond, a fault is indicated. In the preferred arrangement, the check code identifies the outlets from a secondary switch DS, the code allocations for DSαN being cyclically shifted with respect to those for DSα1 whereby routing faults in primary switch PSα and the secondary switches can be detected. If no correct check code acknowledgement signal is produced by an addressed peripheral or if a peripheral detects a fault, the message is preserved at the interface and a fault condition is reported to the data processing system.
