Abstract

1428317 Radio-active compositions MALLINCKRODT CHEMICAL WORKS 29 April 1974 [14 May 1973] 18717/74 Heading G6R [Also in Division G1] A diagnostic reagent composition for use in in vitro determination of thyroid function comprises a buffered aqueous suspension containing finely divided, amorphous silicon dioxide, thyroid hormone substance tagged with radioactive iodine and a non-ionic surfactant. In carrying out the determination, a blood serum sample is mixed with a measured amount of the reagent composition, the silicon dioxide is separated from the suspension and the radioactivity of the separated silicon dioxide or of the supernatant liquid is measured. Examples relate to compositions comprising a buffered aqueous suspension of microfine precipitated silica containing L-tri-iodothyronine (T-3) labelled with I-131 and as surfactant nonylphenoxypoly(ethyleneoxy) ethanol, polyoxyethylene (20) oleyl ether, polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monolaurate. There is general reference to use in the compositions of L-thyroxine or L-tri-iodothyronine tagged with I-125 or I-131.
