Abstract

1428297 Emptying tanks A P PEDRICK 16 April 1974 16479/74 Heading B8T [Also in Divisions E1 and H2] Oil from a buoyant tank 12 above an offshore oil well is transported to the shore in hollow metal spheres 5 which are propelled electromagnetically at high speed along an evacuated pipe line 20. Empty spheres are dropped into a funnel 15 at the top of the tank, and as they drop down through the oil they automatically fill up and then seal themselves (Fig. 3, not shown). They are by this time heavy enough to drop through the sea water 17 at the bottom of the tank into the pipeline.
