Abstract

1427977 Mixing apparatus VERFAHRENSTECHNIK HUBERS KG 15 March 1973 [17 March 1972 8 July 1972 16 Nov 1972] 12631/73 Heading B1C [Also in Division F1] In an apparatus for encapsulating or filling articles with viscous liquid, e.g. casting resin, pumping and mixing components of the apparatus are mounted in a metal block 12 of good thermal conductivity, e.g. aluminium, conduits connecting the components being formed directly in the block. Constituents of the liquid enter premixing chambers 14, 14' and are delivered by pumps 16, 16' through a mixer 20 to an outlet 21. Mixer 20 comprises a perforated plate 34, Fig. 2 (not shown), reciprocated by a crank drive. Each pump comprises a plunger 24a, which moves out of gasket 27 on its upward stroke for liquid to flow through the gasket aperture into the pump cylinder, from which it is discharged during the downward stroke via check valve 18. A rinsing agent is admitted into delivery passage 22c from reservoir 58b if a blockage occurs. The temperature and pressure of the liquid are detected by thermometer 54a and manometer 56a connected to alarms. The whole or parts of the block may be heated. In Fig. 4 (not shown), a plunger guide and position indicator are provided. The block 12 has a hinged door 46 of transparent material, or with windows, for access to the components. Plungers 24a and gaskets 27 of different sizes may be used to provide different outputs. The pump plungers are reciprocated by an actuating cylinder 25. The liquid in chamber 14 may be pressurized by gas pressure or a mechanically actuated piston. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the appratus is movably mounted on a vacuum chamber enclosing a movable table for supporting the articles to be encapsulated or filled.
