Abstract

1427699 Rocker propellants IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 May 1970] 21857/70 Heading F3A A rocket propellant charge is bonded to a combustion inhibition layer which comprises an elastomeric material and at least 50% by weight of a filler comprising carbon or an oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, sulphate, or nitrate of Be, Mg, Ca, Zn, Sr, Cd, Ba, B, Al, Si, Ti, As, Sb, Bi, Fe, Co, or Ni. The elastomeric material may be natural rubber, a silicone-based elastomer, polyethylene, a chloro-sulphonated polyethylene elastomer, polyurethane, a butyl rubber elastomer, a vinyl acetate copolymer with or without methacrylic acid, or an ethylenepropylene terpolymer. Polyvinyl formal is used to bond the combustion inhibition material to a charge of nitrocellulose-nitroglycerine cast propellant. In examples the elastomer is chloro-sulphonated polyethylene or natural rubber and the filler is iron oxide or barium sulphate.
