Abstract
1427062 Assembling force fits YARDLEY PRODUCTS CORP 27 March 1973 [10 April 1972] 14766/73 Heading B3U [Also in Division B4] A tool for embedding a metal insert 20 in or removing it from thermoplastics material 24 comprises an electrical heating element 6 for heating a tool head 8 having a cylindrical portion 22 which engages the insert 20 and an adjustable control means 66 for repeatedly making and breaking the electrical circuit to the element 6 at timed intervals so as to maintain the head 8 within a constant temperature range. In one embodiment, a metal insert 20, e.g. of aluminium, brass, copper or stainless steel, having ribs 28 is mounted on an extension 22 of the tool head 8 which is removably attached by a threaded end 10 to a shaft 4 of the tool. The head 8 is positioned in heat exchanging relationship with the electrical heating element 6 which is connected to a timing device 66 for intermittently completing and breaking the circuit leading to the element 6 to maintain it within a constant temperature range. The timer 66 is adjustable to enable the temperature to be varied. When the insert 20 has been heated to the desired temperature by the element 6, it is pressed by the tool into a hole 26 in the thermoplastics body 24 which may be of polyethylene or polycarbonate. In alternative embodiments, the head 8 has a threaded recess (Fig. 2, not shown) for receiving a threaded end of an insert of a threaded portion (54) (Fig. 3, not shown) for engaging a threaded recess of an insert.
