Abstract

1426937 Current collectors I A LEVIN K I SOKBELEV L I LEVKOVICH and B A PAVLJUK 21 May 1973 24516/73 Heading B7L [Also in Division H2] A device for de-icing a trolley wire 1 or a railway overhead wire or electric rail is installed on a vehicle 7 so that -it can be moved along the wire &c. The device comprises an inductor 2 which is held at a small distance a from the wire 1 &c. and is fed by current pulses to produce electromagnetic field pulses which cause transient elastic deformation of the wire &c. The inductor may be elongated along the direction of the wire (Fig. 2, not shown). A device attached to a locomotive pantograph for engaging a zig-zag wire comprises five staggered inductors (Fig. 7, not shown) or a single transversely elongated inductor (Fig. 6, not shown). To generate the current pulses, a capacitor bank 47 is connected to the inductor(s) 2 through a thyristor 48 triggered by a switch 51 operated by one wheel 43 of the vehicle. 'Three forms of current collector to which the device may be attached are illustrated but not described. The pantograph shoes may themselves be de-iced by fixed inductors (64, Figs. 13 and 14, not shown).
