Abstract

1426742 Dyeing polyester-cellulose unions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 12 July 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 36019/72 Heading D1B Unions of aromatic polyester and cellulosic materials are dyed in a continuous process by impregnating, e.g. padding, or printing with (a) an alkali metal salt of a disperse dyestuff which contains at least one carboxylic acid, sulphamoylaryl or tantomeric keto-enol group and which is free from sulphonic acid groups in conjunction with an acid treatment and (b) a water-soluble reactive dyestuff for the cellulosic material in conjunction with a treatment with an alkali. The disperse dye may be applied before or after the reactive dye in separate dyebaths or both dyes may be applied from the same dyebath. Fixation may be by steaming, dry heat or hot or cold batching. When a single dyebath is used the liquor may contain in addition to alkali an acid generator which on baking or steaming liberates acid to fix the disperse dye. In a further embodiment, the acid generator may be omitted if the alkali present is neutralised by the acid generated by the reaction of the reactive dye with the cellulosic material, thus fixing the disperse dye. A final rinse in aqueous alkali removes unfixed dyestuff.
