Abstract

1425903 Casting composite articles; blocking lenses ESSILOR INTERNATIONAL (COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'OPTIQUE) 17 May 1973 [29 May 1972] 23578/73 Headings B3F and B3D Before casting a holding block on an ophthalmic lens blank 13, a mounting member 10 is fitted to the blank. The member 10 comprises a skirt portion 15 and an annular portion 20, the latter being provided with portions 11a and 11b which bear against the finished face 14 of the lens blank. The skirt 15 is provided with a projection 18 which engages a notch 19 formed in the blank 13 to locate the member in a predetermined angular position in relation to the blank. The member may be made of a transparent plastics material and may be provided with reference marks (30) to assist in the accurate positioning of the member 10 and blank 13 relative to the mould 33. After the metal in the mould has solidified, the mould is removed and the skirt portion 15 of the member torn off by pulling a tab 25 to leave a holding block which incorporates the annular portion 20 of the member 10, Fig. 5 (not shown).
