Abstract

1425885 Buoyancy devices for amphibious vehicles J E WHATMOUGH 21 May 1974 [21 May 1973] 24170/73 Heading B7A A buoyancy device of the type disclosed in Specification 575,092 for an amphibious vehicle 1 comprises a continuous foldable fabric skirt 4 extending between upper and lower channel shaped continuous peripheral girders 2, 3 and an intermediate continuous girder 6 which has at least one flange extending along each side of its main web. The intermediate frame member 6 is stowed with the folded skirt 4 between the upper and lower girders 2, 3. The member 6 may have an I-section or be formed by two channel sections joined back-to-back (not shown). The skirt between the intermediate and lower members 6, 3 may be double walled, the space between the walls being inflatable.
