Abstract

1425362 Code reader LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS GmbH 5 Feb 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 5597/73 Heading G4M Light from a displaceable source 13 is passed through a condenser 14 and reflected from a mirror 15 on to an adjustable area of a strip 11 carrying code marks and timing marks. Reflected light passes through mirror 15, image forming lens 18, semi-silvered mirror 19 and a slit 21 to be detected by photo-cell 24. Mirror 19 also reflects light from an area of the strip to photo-cell 20 which detects the mean brightness of an area. The photo-cells feed a low drift amplifier arranged to produce an output representing the logarithmic value of the incident light intensity and the amplifier outputs are fed to a difference amplifier to obtain the data values. The amplifier outputs are also multiplied by different values and fed to a circuit deriving clock signals (Fig. 3, not shown).
