1425244 Button shank supply PENTAPCO INC 8 May 1973 [9 May 1972] 21994/73 Heading A3H [Also in Division D1] A device for supplying shanks 63 to a sewing machine 10 with a button sewing attachment 18 has a hopper 120 with a stirrer 118 powered by a motor 108, chute 98 and a reciprocating feed bar 68. Rearward movement of a feed handle 88 allows the leading shank 63 in the chute 98 to be picked up by the face 96 of the feed bar 68; a spring 90 provides movement to carry the shank 63 onto the required position against a location face 64. The article requiring buttons has already been placed beneath a plate 62 and a button placed in the spring jaws 36 so that sewing can take place. The device is attached to the button sewing attachment 18 firstly by means of an arm 128 journalled onto a stud 146 screwed into a block 144 which in turn is attached to the underside of an arm 20 by screws 142 through a plate 140. The second attachment connects a plate 150, fastened to the arm 20 by screws 56, to a boss 136 by means of screws 138 and locking nuts 154. Horizontal adjustment of the shank position parallel to the arm 20 is provided by slots 52, 54 and 152 while horizontal adjustment normal to the arm 20 is by means of nuts 162 on a stud 146 and a slot 160. A screw 138 and nuts 154 allow coarse vertical adjustment of a shank location plate 62 while screws 156 and looking nuts 158 provide a fine adjustment. The inner position of the feed bar 68 is adjusted by a stop screw 92 to allow the shank freedom to rotate. The assembly of the button sewing attachment 18 and the shank supply device 60 can pivot about a pin 24 to clear the sewn article. Another embodiment Figs. 10-15 (not shown) shows the device supplying shanks 200 of generally elliptical form with two holes only, presentation being with the major axis either along the length of the feed bar or normal to it.
