CLEVELAND. OHO, ASSIGNOR TO THE STANDARD SEWING MACHINE COMPANY, 0F CLEVELAND, OHIO, A CORPOATION OF OHIO.
BOBBINCASE LATCH/FOR SEWINGMACHINES.
Application medellin 25,
hlnigcment with thehobbin-case at its face My invention relates to bobhinrase lntches lfor sewing machines, and has for its` object to provide an improved .latch device of this.
Simple in construcand rnpchl@ 0f it for proper coperation with the hohhn-ease.
'lo this end the invcntimi consists in the novel construction, arrangement and comtion, ellicient in operation,
-binations of parte hereinafter Het forth in detail and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
.Referring now to the accompanying drawings forming' part. ot this :iner:iiieation,- Figure i is an enlarged nslemhly View. show the loop-taker; hohhincase, bohhin-cnec latch, and their associated parts; the latch being shown in open post tion and the hobhinaifuse heine; Shown removed 'from iiscperative pofaition within the looptakcr andresting upon said latch. Figi. 2 is n hottonrplan View, on u Snuilier scale, of thc structure shown in Fia. 1. hut with the latch in closed position and the bohhinease held thereby in its operative position within the loopmtnlcelr. Fig. 3 is a 'front end elevation of the suine.
Similar reference characters indicate like parts in the several tigures of llwplrawings:
The looperunehzunsnx in connection with which l lmve'illustracd my innhntinn islhe same es that disclosed in Letters lalent #1,005,250, granted to nie (let. lll, itl l 1. and comprises a rotziry loop-taker 3 mounted on the frontend ci driving shaft Il which is journnled in n treme or hanger 4- at the under Side of the hed-plato 5. The looptnker 2 is of :uibstantinlly ueunl construetion` the saine heinff in the form ot' a cupshaped disk to provide an open chamber in .ithv tace Side l'or the bohhin und hohhin-cusc.
The hohhinwase, indicated nt il, is adapted to he rr-.movnlily retuined in operative position Within theopen chamber of the looptakcr by means of u latch 7.' This latch is here shown in the form of a plate for en- Specfintion of Letters Patent. v lggtenid Feb, 18, 1913 i mi: Ierial No. 623,272.
side, and having two ears 8, 8, at its lower yside pivoted to a supporting frame or block 9 hy pivot ecrmr:y l0` l0. to permit; the latch being swung outwardly from the face of the loop-taker for the ireertion or removal of the hohhin and hohbin-ease to and from their position within the looptal er. AWhen the latch is swung to closed position subsequent to the insertion of the hobhin and bobbinense into their positiony within the loop taker, it is held in auch poaition by u catch derive` hero shown in the form of n lever 1l nivoted to the trame') at l2 and having a latch-engaging shoulder 13 which is movably held in latch-engaging position by means of n spring 1.4 Seated in u pocket of the frame 9 and pressing upwardly ngainst the rear ond of the lever, as clearly shown in Fig. l. This catch device 11 is extended at its forward end sullieicntly far beyond the cooperating parts to permit of its being' con veniently grasped vby the operator when it isf-f..
desired to release the bobhin-case latch 7. When the latter is released by the ralentir of the catch l1 from holding `engagement therewith, it is automaticallythrown to its open position by meansof a spring-pressed pin l5 sented in the frame 9 and acting with an outward' pressure against said latch. When the latch 7 is thus thrown to open position, the bohbin and bobbin-case heineT released thereby will also ordinarily drop outwardly from their position1 within the looptnker to u position resting,` upon said latch, as shown in Fig. 1, where they may be conveniently reached by the operator. Subsequently and after a newly-wound bobbin has been placed in the hohbin-cnse, the latter will pe again placed or otherwiselocated on the etch and the latch then swung to its closed position, the hobhin und tive position within the loop-taker. the latch 7 it will operate by contact of its upper edge with the catch 11 to ra'ise .the latter and permit of the passage of the latch 7 beneath the shoulder 13 thereon following which said catch 11 will be caused to automatically snap into lockingr engagement with the latch 7 under the action of the spring 14. Alinger hobhincuse in their opera- When y16 ut the upper edge of theiatcn 7 loosely which will operate to place is thus swung to closed position i .in the Y with the therein and thereby acts to hold the-bobbincase against rotary movement in its seat in the-loop-taker.
The supportingnframe 9 for the bobbincase latch and certain of its cooperating parts as described, is here shown as being,r
fsupported by means of two horizontally-arranged pins 18, 18, projecting from the front side of vthe shaft frame or hanger 4 'and entering corresponding openings 19, 19, in the latch frame, whereby-the latter may bev slidingly adjusted on said pins to adjust the position of the Ilatch relatively to the loop-taker and bobbin-case in order to provide the proper thread clearance between the latch and the face ofthe bobbin-case. Set s rews 20, 20, carried in the latch frame for engagement with the pins 18, 18, and adjustable sto or positioningr pins 2, 21, carried rame or hanger 4 for engagement rear side of said latch-frame, serve as a means for irnilysecuring the latter in adjusted position.
The frame or hanger 4 in the present case, asalso in my aforesaid pending application,
pivotally connected to the bedplate by pivot screwsQQ, 22, although for the purpose of my present invention it may be made integral with or otherwise connected to the bed-plate.
What lV claim is:
1. In a Sewing machine, the combination with a rotary loop-taker and a bobbin-oase, of a hanger at the undeneside of the bedplate prmf'ided-with a plurality of horizontally-arranged bracket pins, a frame-mountedy on said pins, andv a bobbin-case latch mounted on saidoframe.
Q. ln a vsewing'J machine, the combination with a rotary loop-taker and abobbin-case, of a hangeraty the under side of the bedplate provided with a plurality of horizontally-arranged bracket pins, a frame having; openings to receive said pins and being adjustably mounted on them, means for securing the frame in adjusted. position on said pins anda bobbin-case latch mounted on said frame.
