Abstract

1424983 Surface condensers; feed-water heaters SKODA NARODNI PODNIK 22 March 1974 [16 April 1973] 12962/74 Headings F4S and F4A In a shell and tube type feedwater heater, superheated steam from a turbine enters the shell 1 through an inlet 18 and passes firstly through a region defined by baffles 15, 16 and 17 wherein it is cooled by feedwater passing through a first group 9, 10 of U-tubes and thereafter flows via an opening 19 into the remainder of the shell wherein it is condensed by feedwater passing through a second group 7, 8 of U-tubes; condensate leaves the shell through a bottom outlet 20. As shown the header chamber for the U-tubes is divided into distribution and collection regions by a main baffle 5 and a secondary baffle 6. Feedwater to be heated entering through inlet 11 passes through the second group 7, 8 of tubes whereafter the major portion leaves the header through an outlet 12, the remaining portion being passed through the first group 9, 10 of tubes to cool the incoming superheated steam before finally leaving through an outlet 13. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the header is sub-divided into two pairs of distribution and collection chambers, whereby a separate supply of feedwater can be passed through the first group 9, 10 of U-tubes to cool the superheated steam.
