Abstract

1424582 Lifting devices 600 MACHINERY AUTRALIA PTY Ltd 7 Feb 1973 [8 Feb 1972] 6020/73 Heading B8H Two adjacent sets of stacks 1 of building tiles are lifted and moved by means of gripping means, Fig. 1, which is suspended at a bore 12 from a boom mounted on the bed of a truck (not shown), the gripping means consisting of a pair of outer arms for engagement with the outer sides of the sets and an inner arm to which an inflatable bag 14 is attached, the bag in use of the gripping means being disposed between the sets 1 as shown such that when inflated it causes the sets 1 to be gripped between itself and the pair of outer arms respectively, operation of the boom causing the gripping means to be lifted on to the truck bed. The inner face of each of the outer arms has a sheet 13 of rubber material bonded thereto thus providing a resiliently deformable surface for engaging with the side of the appropriate set of tiles. The inflatable bag 14 is attached to two angle brackets 27 which are bolted to corresponding mounting lugs 28, and the bag 14 may be divided into three bag sections by means of a pair of dividing straps (21), Fig. 4 (not shown), for engagement with the three stacks 1 of tiles in each set, and each such bag section can be individually supplied with compressed air through nozzles (20). An inner inflatable bag (19) may be provided between the two sheets (15) forming the bag 14, Fig. 6 (not shown), the bag (19) being provided as a safety measure in the event of the bag 14 being inadvertently deflated. A cover sheet 29 is provided to protect the bag 14 against abrasion and wear.
