Abstract

1424527 Inflatable buoyancy collars for submersible craft DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 10 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 38599/72 Headings B7A and B7S [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] To facilitate surface recovery, a submersible craft 10 has an inflatable collar 42 stowed in a housing 14 on the periphery of the body, the bag being inflated from a high pressure gas source via an explosive stop valve operated by a switch, e.g. a pressure sensitive switch. A latch 16 normally covers the compartment 14 and has gas actuated hatch release units (see Division E2) which are operated when the stop valve opens. A net or straps 57 surrounds the collar to evenly distribute the load of the craft thereon and the collar 42 may have ribs on its surface to reduce the likelihood of rupture. The gas may be supplied to the collar via a pressure control valve (see Division F2) and the collar may include a pressure relief valve (see Division F2) to balance the ambient water pressure to that of the gas as the craft rises to the surface.
