Abstract

1424434 Cooling liquids in bulk INTERATOM INTERNATIONALE ATOMREAKTORBAU GmbH 6 April 1973 [7 April 1972] 16753/73 Heading F4S Coolant, e.g. liquid sodium, is passed through a cooling tube depending downwardly from a plug assembly 8 into a container 1, e.g. a nuclear reactor tank, filled with a liquid to be cooled, e.g. liquid sodium. The tube comprises a downwardly extending portion 4 linked to an upwardly extending helical portion 5 via a loop portion 6. The upper ends of the tube portions 4 and 5 open into first and second chambers 10 and 9 respectively. The plug assembly, which is surrounded by a bush 13, is fitted in fluid-tight manner into an aperture in the container wall and is connected by a weld seam 12 to a ring 11. Ring shaped bodies 14 and 15 are welded into position via welds 16-19 to fill in the space between the plug assembly and the bush 13. Supply and discharge ducts 20 and 21 lead coolant to and from the chambers 10 and 9 respectively. When the cooling tube is to be removed from the container, e.g. for repair purposes, a portion of the coolant remaining in the tube may be removed therefrom via an overflow 25 which is linked through a cavity 22 in the plug assembly to a tube 24 which in turn is connected to the tube portion 5; the cavity is normally sealed by a screw closure member 23.
