Abstract

1424205 Continuous casting ALCAN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 19 March 1973 [27 March 1972] 13173/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division B2] A moving mould surface 10 or 11, e.g. of a twin belt or twin drum casting machine for producing a casting 26, is dressed with an adherent insulating coating 30 to which a layer 34 of parting material such as talc or carbon is applied to prevent the molten metal adhering to the layer 30. The parting material is continuously applied from hoppers before the mould surface contacts the metal and continuously removed by brushes and possibly vacuum after separation from the casting 26. Details of a paint composition (see Division B2) for providing the insulating coating and containing a silicone resin and details of a talc are given. The former is baked after application.
