Abstract

1423733 Purifying I.C. engine exhaust gas ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 26 Jan 1973 [29 Jan 1972] 4068/73 Heading B1W [Also in Division G3] An exhaust gas purification system for an i.c. engine comprises a reactor adapted at a predetermined temperature to decompose at least one injurious constituent, e.g. a nitrogen oxide, of the engine exhaust gases; a regulating device for regulating the mass ratio (#) of air to fuel, when the reactor is at its operating temperature, to a value substantially equal to unity (an example of a suitable regulating device is shown in specification 1197865 Division Gl); means for reducing the cold-start fuel enrichment with respect to time for a predetermined interval 17, e.g. 20-30 seconds, after starting the engine; means for reducing the cold starting fuel enrichment with respect to engine temperature for a further predetermined interval 18 after starting of the engine, and a switching device responsive to engine temperature for switching on the #- regulating device when the reactor has reached its operating temperature.
