Abstract

1423203 Hermetically-sealed cell casing VARTA BATTERIE AG 17 July 1973 [19 July 1972] 34031/73 Heading H1B A cylindrical metal cell casing 1 is made by deforming the metal to form an integral cover provided with an upstanding neck 7. An insulating ring 4 coated with bitumin is placed around the neck, a positive electrode conductor 5 is welded to a metal cap 6 which is then pressed over the ring 4, and the cap is deformed to grip the narrower portion at the base of the neck. -- Excessive gas pressure in the cell causes the cap 6 to leave the neck 7 but complete detachment is prevented by the conductor 5.
