Abstract

1423113 Cholesterol standard BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM GmbH 10 May 1974 [14 May 1973] 20752/74 Heading G1B A cholesterol standard solution comprises in aqueous solution a known amount of cholesterol which may be up to 400mg/100 ml, together with 1 to 20 vol per cent of a primary or secondary aliphatic alcohol containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, 5 to 20 vol per cent hydroxy polyethoxydodecane or 40 to 60 vol per cent diethyleneglycol monobutyl ether, and 0.5 to 5 wt per cent sodium chloride and/or 0.01 to 0.5 wt per cent alkyl dimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride with 8 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical, optional components being 0.5 to 5 vol per cent tetramethyl urea, 0.05 to 0.2% alkali metal azide, the pH of the solution if azide is added being adjusted to at least 6.5 using for example triethanolamine buffer. The hydroxypolyethoxydodecane is a commercial product with average molecular weight 600. The alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride is a commercial mixture in which the alkyl groups contain 8 to 18 carbon atoms.
