Abstract

1422681 Vibrating screen filter KEY OILFIELD SUPPLY & RENTALS LTD 14 May 1973 [31 May 1972] 22937/73 Heading BID In an apparatus for separating a mixture of mud and shale obtained from a drilling operation, comprising a vibratory screen 13 driven by electric motor 15 and supplied with the mixture from tank 10 via weir 17, a door 26 is provided between tank 10 and mud-collecting tank 24 which door when no power is being supplied to motor 15 is in an open position to allow mixture to pass directly into tank 24 from tank 10. When power is supplied through lines 54 to motor 15, solenoid 53 is energised; as a result valve 55 is moved so that compressed air is supplied to piston-cylinder device 60 to cause piston rod 63 to move such that shaft 45 is rotated in a direction which causes cam plates 51 to close door 26. When no power is supplied the shaft 45 is rotated in the opposite direction, the door 26 being opened by the pressure of the mixture in tank 10. Below door 26, a manually-operable door 65 may be positioned. The separated shale is deposited from screen 13 onto chute 22 leading to a disposal unit (not shown). Mud in tank 24 is passed into tank 31 from which it can be withdrawn for reuse in the drilling operation.
