Abstract

1422562 Coated synthetic paper OJI YUKA GOSEISHI KK and SANYO CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 16 March 1973 12745/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Synthetic paper comprising polymeric material, is rendered antistatic by coating one or both surfaces thereof an aqueous solution of an antistatic agent which is a water soluble polymer containing units represented by the formula in which R is H or C 1-4 alkyl; R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are the same or different C 1-4 alkyl groups; R 4 is an at least C 16 alkyl group and X<SP>-</SP> is the anion; and also units derived from a copolymerisable carboxylic acid or salt thereof. In the examples (1) a solution of polymer in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are methyl, and R 4 is stearyl and X- is Cl- and the acid is acrylic acid, is coated onto both sides of a synthetic paper film which has been extruded from a mixture of polypropylene, TiO 2 and talc and stretched; (2) a solution of a polymer as above, except that the acid is maleic acid, is coated onto a synthetic paper which has been extruded from a mixture of polyethylene, clay, and TiO 2 ; and (3) a polymer in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are methyl R 4 is cetyl, X- is CH 3 COO<SP>-</SP> and the acid is methacrylic acid, is coated as an aqueous solution onto a synthetic paper which has been extruded from a mixture of polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene/vinylacetate copolymer, TiO 2 and diatomaceous earth and stretched both transversely and longitudinally.
