Abstract

142,232. Accles & Shelvoke, and Steventon, H. F. Feb. 28, 1919. Systems controlling travel for a fixed distance or number of revolutions.-In an end-cell switching system, the regulating switch is under the control of a volt meter o, which, according as the voltage is too high or too low, closes a circuit through one or other of two electro-magnets i, j. A lever g is then moved to close one or other of two circuits, which connect an electric motor p to a supply source. The motor through the worm and wheel d, c turns the arm a of the regulating switch to insert or cut out a cell of the battery. The wheel c carries a gapped ring e, so that the motor when once started must move completely from one pair of contacts to the next. This is assured by means of a stop on the lever g, which rides on the inside or outside of the ring e until it comes opposite a gap; one or other of the springs k then causes the step to enter the gap and hold the switch in the new position. A brake m held off by the motor current stops running of the armature &c. when the current to the motor ceases.
