Abstract

1422123 Coated sheet material COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 5 Oct 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42221/72 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] A waterproofing material comprises a flexible waterproof sheet comprising a mixture of at least 10% by weight of a first bituminous material and at least 15% by weight of a first thermoplastic polymer compatible with the first bituminous material, and, adhering to at least one face thereof, a continuous layer of a pressure-sensitive composition comprising a second bituminous material and at least one second polymeric material compatible with the second bituminous material, the second bituminous material being of the same genus as the first bituminous material, the layer of adhesive composition having a thickness of at least 1 mm. The bituminous materials may be of petroleum origin or coal origin. The first thermoplastic material may be a vinyl chloride, ethylene or propylene homopolymer or copolymer. The composition from which the flexible waterproof sheet is produced may also comprise a fibrous or particulate filler, a natural or synthetic rubber and a migratory or non- migratory plasticiser. The second polymeric material may be an unvulcanised or partially vulcanised rubber, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene polypropylene, a copolymer of vinyl acetate with ethylene or polystyrene, and the bituminous material used in the adhesive composition is preferably a coal digest. The adhesive may also contain a tackifier, e.g. a coumaroneindene resin, aromatic hydrocarbon/formaldehyde condensation resin or cross-linked aliphatic hydrocarbon resin, a fluxing oil or other extender for the bituminous material and a fibrous filler. The adhesive layer may be covered with a release layer which is removed prior to application of the water proofing material.
