Abstract

1422124 Coated sheet material COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 5 Oct 1973 [12 Sept 1973] 42887/73 Divided out of 1422123 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] A sheet, film or foil which does not contain bituminous materials is coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive composition which contains at least 30% by weight of coal tar, coal tar pitch or coal digest, 5-30% by weight of a resinous tackifier, e.g. coumarone-indene resin, aromatic hydrocarbon/formaldehyde condensation resin or cross-linked aliphatic hydrocarbon resin, at least 5% by weight of a nitrile rubber and at least 1% by weight of a styrene-butadiene random copolymer rubber, the weight ratio of nitrile rubber to styrene-butadiene random copolymer rubber being at least 2.5 to 1 and the total amount of nitrile rubber and styrene-butadiene random copolymer rubber taken together being less than 13% by weight. The composition may also contain 0.25-1 part by weight of fluxing oil or other extender for each part by weight of coal tar, coal tar pitch or coal digest and 3-40% by weight of a filler, 3-15% by weight of which based on the adhesive composition may be finely divided fibres, e.g. of cotton, polyester or polyamide. The sheet, film or foil may be of aluminium, copper, plasticised polyvinyl chloride, polyester, polyethylene or polypropylene and the adhesive composition may be applied in a thickness of at least 1mm.
