Abstract

1422116 Furniture joints A J RICHARDS 30 March 1973 [31 Dec 1971] 61000/71 Heading F2M [Also in Division A4] A furniture frame has extruded legs 10 or 30 having two or more longitudinal grooves 11, 12 or 31 (32), the legs being joined by horizontal rails 17, 21 or 37 having ends that fit into the grooves, the rail ends being secured in the grooves by clamping means 20 or 38, each clamping means forcing a side surface of a rail into frictional contact with one side of its respective groove leaving a clearance between the rail and the other side of the groove. In a first form, Fig. 2, screws 20 are inserted through holes 19 in the leg and screwed into holes 18 in the rail and draw the inner face of the rail against the inside surface of the inner rib 14 or 15 defining the groove. In a second form, Fig. 4, set screws 38 with tapered ends are threaded in holes in the rail, and the leading portions of the taper engage the edge of a transverse recess 39 in the rail situated nearest the base 40 of the leg groove and force the end and outer faces of the rail against the base 40 and the inside surface of the outer rib 34.
